It's time for Behind The Label to take a break whilst our team relocate to different parts of this world. We are not sure where our next journey will take us but we know that it has been loads of fun and learning as well as highly challenging in driving this project. Before we go, there are some key lessons that I'd like to share with you to inspire you all to continue doing good, wherever your place is in the world.
First, attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity - a driving BTL philosophy and quote from French political activist, Simone Weil. Amongst the busyness of everyday life, when we take the time out to listen to our peers, our loved ones, or even strangers, it can validate their existence and purpose.
Second, good intentions aren't good enough. We find that many of us often excuse ourselves where we have 'meant well' despite offending someone. The fact is, all of us are in a time of learning in a highly political environment and it's more beneficial to address an action that is stigmatizing or offensive. When we call it out, we can do something about it. This is a hard learning, to admit that we can be wrong, but most valuable in how we conduct ourselves and grow as a person.
Finally, you don't need to have all the answers. We have explored such complex themes and issues in this project. At times, it can be intimidating and scary to approach big concepts and topics and often it's easier just to step back and not do anything about it. I've felt this many times. At the end of the day, having an approach, action or opinion is better than having none at all.
Behind The Label has grown in so many ways. We've achieved this because of you and the wealth of support from the community who believe in the necessity of our work. Thank you.
Reflecting back on our achievements and the richness of perspectives from such diverse storytellers, we thought it best to celebrate the world of difference BTL represents and leave you with this end of year story that celebrates two unique perspectives of this time of year.
